Top 10 Videogames of 2020

This has been a great year for my video gaming hobby, one of the very few highlights of 2020. Switch dominates but Xbox Series S shows considerable presence considering it only started around the middle of November. PC gaming has many honorable mentions but the XSS has taken some time investment away from it.

1. Darkest Dungeon (Switch) – My second most played single player game of all time at 250+hrs. Played on 3 different platforms and purchased 4 times. Final success after 4 separate playthroughs. Magnificent!

2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (XSS) – Still playing this and it has joined the elite single player club of 100+hrs time invested. In contrast to Cyberpunk 2077 it lives up to the hype, even 5 years after release.

3. Nowhere Prophet (Switch) – My favourite video game deck builder. Love the art, theme and the gameplay even though i did find the harder difficulty unfair/random at times.

4. Hollow Knight (Switch) – One of the best games i didn’t(couldn’t?) finish. A fantastic and rewarding Metroidvania.

5. Call of the Sea (XSS) – A first person puzzle adventure with just the right level of difficulty, in a beautiful setting.

6. Titanfall 2 (XSS) – Single player first person shooter done right. It’s been a long time.

7. Florence (Switch) – Grab a glass of whiskey/wine/beer, put on your headphones and play this in one sitting for around 40mins. Accessible video gaming at its finest.

8. Hades (Switch) – I can see why people love this. Not my kind of game but the gameplay, characters, music are top notch. Will come back to it in 2021.

9. Spiritfarer (PC) – Emotional and loveable. A tad long and i still need to finish it.

10. Remnant: From the Ashes (XSS) – Dark Soulsy shooter coop fun!

Biggest (positive) surprise – Call of the Sea (XSS)
Biggest Disappointment – Syberia (PC)
Game i wished i had played in 2020 – Half Life Alyx (PC VR)
