De-clutter diary (3)

Last year i started de-cluttering my flat. Donated clothes, sold board games for charity, recycled old electronics and threw away other things.

Yet, i still i live in a flat with clutter. Things which i rarely use or i’m not even aware they are even there. Hidden in cupboards and boxes. I find it embarrassing that i live in a two bedroom flat, with a storeroom and still find myself with not enough space. Last year i also put a hold on most of my purchases while i was doing this de-clutterring but i’m still shocked by how much clutter i’ve collected over the years. I say clutter because it is cups, mugs, clothes, electronics i bought but never, never use now. So in every sense of the word, these things are clutter to me.

This past month, i’ve raised the level of this clearing out. I gave away almost all of my DVD collection ( I rarely re-watch anything and the ones i do re-watch i’ve kept plus there is no dvd player connected to the TV anyway at the moment). I also donated more clothes, mugs, bowls (10 bowls i got from Alfamega using vouchers, who needs 10 bowls excluding the 5 i’ve kept….), linen, towels, table cloths, napkins, candle holders and got rid of old academic books. Now i’m almost done with the kitchen and moving to the bedroom.

All these are out and I’m still not done yet.

I find it simply embarrassing and near shameful.

Selling board games for charity (4th and final update)

Power Grid was the last board game sold for charity. Thank you very much Costas (the Catch-22 Costas) for taking it off my hands!

So, with the funds raised at EUR90 i rounded it up to EUR150 and i provided this amount to Συνδεσμος Φιλων Παιδικης Στεγης in Nicosia. They will use this money to fund the education of the children (speech therapists, psychologists etc).

Finally, thank you to the 4 people who purchased the games and i hope you all enjoy playing them with family and friends!

Selling board games for charity (2)

I had hoped to attend an event over the weekend in the old town of Nicosia where i could sell some things (dvds, books and board games) for charity but unfortunately i was not able to do so.

The good news was that the Carcassonne expansions were sold for EUR20 (instead of EUR10), therefore raising some more funds. Thank you to Michalis for purchasing them.

Finally, i have decided that the money will be donated to Paidiki Stegi of Nicosia after the year end in the hope that some more games are purchased over the Christmas holidays.

Board games for sale

I am selling a few board games which never find table time either because someone else close to me owns a copy making mine basically a duplicate or because i simply don’t have the time to play them.

The proceeds i receive for these games will be donated to a charity by January and i will post about it on the blog.

The games (all in english) being sold are:

1. Power Grid (EUR25) – Very good condition, played 2-3 times.

2. Dominion (EUR25) – box is damaged, cards in excellent condition.

4. Forbidden Island (EUR10) – Like new.

5. Castle Ravenloft (EUR40) – Very good condition. Cards are sleeved.

6. Carcassone: Inns & Cathedrals (EUR5) – Very good condition (expansion – still need the base game)

7. Carcassone: Traders & Builders (EUR5) – Very good condition (expansion – still need the base game)

I am only looking for buyers living in Cyprus, preferably Nicosia, and the prices (which are non-negotiable) don’t include any shipping costs.

De-clutter diary (2)

It’s incredible what you can find when you start going through closets, drawers and storage rooms. Some stuff you no longer use and never will again and other you actually were looking for but got lost among the clutter.

There is also a very satisfying feeling in knowing what you own in your closets and drawers. In fact i’d like to buy a few clothes now but i will only do so unless i donate some of the ones i already own. I am applying the same principle to other things like boardgames and kitchenware for example.

Home Organising Tips:

  • From now on i will also keep a plastic bag in the boot of the car where i can put clothes not needed on a  regular basis.

De-cluttering continued in the past 3 weeks with the below:

  • 2 Bags of clothes and linen. – donated
  • 11 Books (already read) – released in the wild (BookCrossing) at my building. This is going very well indeed. For 2 weeks no one was taking any more of these books but in the last few days 3 more were taken.
  • 1 Book (already read) – released in the wild (BookCrossing) at a Costa Coffee shop
  • 1 Book (never read) – released in the wild (BookCrossing) at Akropolis Park
  • 4 Pillows slightly used – given away
  • A set of Christmas lights which i had not used in years – given away
  • Wired keyboard and mouse which i never used – given away
  • Pictionary board game (greek) in good condition – It’s a good game but now i own too many which are better so i gave this away.
  • Battlestar Galactica board game (i had two copies) in ok condition – given away

Declutter diary (1) – books

Part of the decluttering involves getting rid of books i’ve read and no longer wish to hold. After numerous failed attempts to give them away i may have found one way to do it. Last week i placed 6 books at the entrance of the building i live in for other residents or visitors to take.

Two of the books were taken, by whom i do not know. But by a person or people who will have more use for them.

Now i’ve put new books in their place to mix it up and i have also registered them with Bookcrossing and added labels in order to track them across Cyprus and possibly (hopefully) the world….
