A Clash of Kings, by George R.R Martin

05 Sep

A fan of the series but not of the books.

I’m about 63% into the second book and i think i’m done. To be honest i have a bit of book reading fatigue so that may be a factor but i don’t think it’s only that. I fail to see what has captivated geeks around the world about the books.

did you start the second book right after finishing the first one? I did that and got a bit bored…Specially because I remembered too well what was going to happen. I took a break from it and, when I felt like reading it, I picked it up again and enjoyed it. It’s not a good book if you’re in the middle of a book slump, though.
I like both versions, the books and the tv show, although If i had to pick just one, I would say the show. The books could be more engaging if Martin was more succint.

No, i read the first one a while ago. I think 2012 but i’m not sure. But i had re-watched the first two seasons again to prepare for Season 3 so that might have played a part.

I just can’t get into the books. I agree show>books which is shocking.

You miss a lot from the show itself.
      Tower of Joy, for example.

That being said, after the first two books, you’ll miss far less…

That is very true. There’s a lot of information in the book that is just not in show.

However, in general i found the book flat and the characters not as interesting as they are in the show. Possibly with the exception of Theon (surprisingly). I may come back and finish it at some point but i can’t go on right now.
